SITUATION

  • The IT department of a Top 20 pharmaceutical company had defined a new strategy and target operating model
  • These initiatives had major implications for the workforce
  • External help was required to ensure comprehensive workforce transformation to make IT fit-for-future

SOLUTION

  • Coordinated the efforts by
  1. Driving an effective PMO
  2. Aligning communication & change management
  3. Supporting build up of training centers (including courses)
  4. Providing vendor management
  5. Monitoring transformation roadmap along other reorganizational projects

This oversight included:

  • Global IT skill assessment of 1,000+ employees, mapping skills with future role requirements
  • Defined required to-be capabilities based on 100+ IT roles and developed and delivered training plan to address skill gaps
  • Implemented functional sourcing strategies, e.g. modernization of core IT infrastructure through an external vendor
  • Created special units to transfer people
  • Rebalanced the footprint of on-, near-, off-shore resources

IMPACT

  • Developed and implemented a three-year workforce transformation program to ensure the IT department had the right skills in the future and retained the core “IP” within the company
  • A key finding was that 30% of the current available skills would not be required in the next 3-5 years
